Topic 2 – Session 3 – Big Civilization
Out of the north came the most colorful of all the barbarians: the Vikings. They raided and slaughtered throughout Europe including the Mediterranean. Their peoples even migrated to the lands overseas. The country they most affected was the land across the North Sea: the British Isles.
There they conquered kingdom after kingdom until there was only one kingdom left: Wessex. Wessex’s king was Alfred. His struggle with the Vikings led to the unity of the land that became England.
