They concentrated their efforts in North America and the Caribbean Sea. Their empire’s growth was hampered by their restrictive immigration and governing policies.
In the 1800’s they began a program of aggressive colonization, focusing on Africa. Their most notorious colony was located in southeast Asia, called “Vietnam”.
