Topic 6 – Session 6 – Big Civilization
After driving the French out of North America and India, the British had the biggest empire. Even after the American Revolution, they began a second try at empire building. They took South Africa from the Dutch, and Malta from the French. After the Opium Wars, they had more power in China than the Chinese. They even took an entire continent: Australia. Backed by the largest navy in the world, they became the premier power in it.
