Topic 1 – Session 7 – Big Civilization
These were the first colonies in modern times to break away from their European motherland. They went away as a group. After the Battle of Saratoga Britain’s rival nations concluded that the colonies might win their war after all. Their intervention tipped the balance in the colonies’ favor.
Beyond military success, they developed organizing principles which positioned them politically and economically. Their Declaration of Independence showed their intention to be a part of the international community of nations.
