Topic 1 – Session 1 – The Century of the 1500’s
The Renaissance began in Italy. How did it begin? These conditions made it possible. The Medieval Ages were winding down. Europeans were open to new thinking. Italy was at the center of Mediterranean trade and commerce. As a result of Constantinople’s fall, Roman/Greek scholars immigrated to Italy and brought their books with them. When Italians turned their minds to Classical Learning, they had Roman antiquities all around them. By 1500, the early Renaissance had evolved to the high Renaissance.
